The UAC Summer Youth Employment Program is gearing up for Summer 2023! And we have some important program announcements and changes to share with you.

About The Summer Youth Employment Program

The Urban Affairs Coalition Summer Youth Employment program provides paid summer job opportunities and internships for youth ages 14-18 through the WorkReady Program. The Summer Youth Employment Program consists of programs that offer participants the opportunity to explore their interests and career paths and engage in learning experiences that will help them improve their financial literacy, leadership, and collaborative skills. Youth participants must live in Philadelphia and be between the ages of 14-18.

The UAC Summer Youth Employment Program will continue to provide mentorship and career exposure experience to youth from July 5, 2023 through August 18, 2023. Job opportunities are available in various fields paying $11.00 per hour!

Exposure to career paths in science and technology.

Understanding civics and social justice (the view that everyone deserves equal economic, political and social rights and opportunities).

Understanding how to write a business plan plus basic marketing and advertising.

Creative and Expressive Arts

Understanding the traditional subdivision of the arts, being architecture, sculpture, painting, literature, Music, performing, and film stories.

STEP 1: ONLINE APPLICATION
  • Visit www.workready.org to access the online application.
  • When you apply,   USE THIS REFERRAL CODE: WRS59 
  • The email account you use for your online account will be used for all email communications for enrollment and placements. 
  • Be sure to fully complete and submit your online application. After doing so you will receive a
    confirmation email from the Philadelphia Youth Network (PYN).
  • If you are having any issues with the PYN online application, please contact the PYN Call Center at 267-502-3900 or [email protected]. The call center is open Monday-Friday from 9 am to 5 pm.
STEP 2: QUALIFICATION

Check your email for the next steps on how to complete the qualification process online. Please have the following documents gathered.

  • Social Security Card
  • Birth Certificate or Passport
  • Valid Photo ID and proof of address for charter and private school students
  • Report Card
  • Work Permit (ages 14-17)
  • Selective Service Registration Receipt (Males age 18 by July 1, 2025)

Due to high-demand, completion of steps 1 and 2 does not guarantee job placement.

STEP 3: ONBOARDING & CLEARANCES
  • Check your email for instructions to complete employment documents. Also check your email for instructions on clearances if required.
  • Once you complete the qualification stage, you will be sent an email with instructions to submit employment documents including the I-9, W-4, Act-32, and clearances.Instructions will also include steps to complete your background clearances* at no cost.
  • The email is sent to the email used when initially registering through workready.org.If you need to change your email please contact Philadelphia Youth Network’s office at 267-502-3800 or log back into your online application.
STEP 4: JOB PLACEMENT
  • Check your email for job placement.
  • Our placement team will work diligently to place as many youth in jobs as possible. If you are successfully placed in our program, you will receive an email from UAC with your assignment.
  • We expect all placements to have some in-person requirements, but we will carefully monitor health and safety protocols.
STEP 5: ORIENTATION
  • Check your email for your assigned orientation date, time, and location.
  • Orientation sessions will be held in June. The program will start in July and run through August.
  • The program will start on July 10, 2023 through August 18, 2023
